Hirsch Umhlanga recently hosted a cooking demo free to the public to show off some knife skills and the art of easy cooking for two.
Guests were treated to prawns cooked in the Phillips Air fryer, using 80% less fat than you would normally use.
Warren Pearce PRO cooked up some of the recipe’s found in Richard Hirsch’s cook book, called his and Hirsch’s.
Prawns to be wild and some Simons date balls.

Women’s Entrepreneur Breakfast with Margaret Hirsch
Margaret Hirsch, Hirsch’s Chief Operations Executive, was the key note speaker at the Woman’s Entrepreneur Breakfast held at the Berea Church in Phoenix.
Margaret Hirsch delivered a powerful message of overcoming obstacles, focusing on success and the importance of goal setting. Margaret has always been very hands on in her business having done selling, invoicing, demonstrating, delivery person on the trucks, installing and demonstrating in customers’ homes and generally taking care of everything at Hirsch’s for the past 34 years. “We have built Hirsch’s from a tiny store to a billion rand company and I hope that I will be an inspiration to others to know that they can live their dreams as well.” she said.
The Sony Centre in The Gateway Mall runs monthly photography talks, each month being a different topic which gives value to the general public.
This month the Sony Centre had Dave Nisbet who is a Motosport photographer.
Dave Nisbet told us, “Taking control of your shutter speed is critical when shooting motorsport photography, try using Tv (Shutter Priority) mode, so you can set your shutter speed while your camera takes care of the aperture. I generally want a shutter speed of 1/250-1/500 sec to freeze the action in my motorsport photography, unless I’m panning for motion blur.”
We had arranged to have a small POP up Hirsch Shop outside displaying all the items we used when cooking as well as a few smalls, we ran with our OPT INN forms and managed to get just over 200 today.
Richard and Simone Hirsch cooked up a storm at the Kitchen, including dishes such as, prawns to be wild, Beer Bread, and Simones Famous Date Balls. The crowd loved it and customers bought the book after the demo getting it personally signed by Ricahrd and Simone.
Later I cooked up a storm making a Beef and Chicken Wellington that came out amazing while promoting our amazing products, pans and SMEG appliances.
HIRSCH’S HOSTS SOCIAL MEDIA TRAINING.
Hirsch’s Umhlanga recently hosting a social media training specifically for the B&B’s in the Durban area, this was done to uplift the community and give them knowledge to best promote our city and their B&B.
Shaun Reed, marketing manager for the Hirsch Group explained, “Social media is slowly creeping into all areas of the web. Even websites and services that have no social features usually use Facebook or Google+, to help spread the word of their existence. Even so, it’s quite difficult to explain to someone new to the Internet, or social aspects of the web, exactly what this social media revolution is. And just as importantly, what the difference between social media services are.
The breakdown is if something like Twitter differs from Facebook or LinkedIn. Twitter is for telling people what you are doing at any given moment (like I am eating a donut), Facebook is more for sharing what you like in general (I like donuts), and LinkedIn is for sharing what you’re good at (skilled with donuts). Yet all rely on the sharing of information in different ways to remain relevant and keep people using them.
